Partnerships 4 Success (P4S) aims to reduce substance use among the Latine/x communities in the South Bay and Border Region of San Diego County. The focus is on unfair neighborhood conditions that negatively impact health, such as unsafe parks, a lack of access to healthy foods and limited health care services. These community conditions can lead to Positive and Adverse Childhood conditions (PACEs) which can shorten the lifespan of community members based on their environment. With our program’s efforts, we are able to create culturally and linguistically appropriate tools to increase protective factors among the community from free workshops to fostering advocacy through leadership development, to increase quality of life for the community members in the region.
This project will bring together evidence-informed approaches that promote health equity. It will engage the community by building a coalition of stakeholders that cuts across and breaks down siloed agency efforts, utilize mainstream and social media to highlight efforts, facilitate a forum for the community to voice their concerns and offer solutions, leverage IPS’ policy mapping lab to identify hot spot areas and health disparities by geography, and build the capacity of the residents to be their own best advocate.
